There are a few reasons why this is a great place to go. First is the drive to the abbey, picturesque. Second is that you can go inside to the cafeteria, order your food and drinks, and dine outside in the beautiful weather. Third, the kids get to play on the playground while you stuff your face and drink lots of good beer.
When you have one of those, what are we going to do today moments, this is the perfect option. There is no need to pack anything, get in the car, set your GPS and just go.

Know before you go
The cafeteria can get rather costly for hot plates so just stick to the tartine sandwiches. If you just want something to munch on I recommend the Assiette de Degustation and then purchase a whole loaf of bread with it to fill you up. You can get things like spaghetti bolognaise but you need to know your child. Are they going to sit still and eat their meal while there is a playground in front of them? If they are like my children, not a chance. So for them, I stick to bread/cheese/sausage/apples and let them come and go while I kick back and drink.
You can buy the maredsous products not from cafeteria line (off the shelf) and make your own lunch with them = cheaper.
Maredsous Triple is powerful stuff. If you are driving, I suggest max 1 and time to let it wear off.
