Another one of those Restaurant Nouvelle places. They seem to pop up everywhere but it is because they are catching on to a trend. Families like to eat with their children (sometimes). Offering up a children’s menu plus some child entertainment equals people constantly coming through the door. Brasserie des Etangs is located at the edge of Woluwe Sainte Pierre and Auderghem. You have probably driven by it. We decided to stop in one afternoon and were quite happy we did. Not only do they have an outdoor playground (ok it is really some swings, a slide, and a tire thingy but it kept our kids busy) but they also have an indoor play area. Not like McDonalds or anything but it is just a nice little area with a some toys and books. The food is on the pricey side but if you order smartly it won’t be too bad. The bread is free and kids stomachs are small. They have a nice penne pasta with ham and cheese plate for the kids. Ours split one and the waiter didn’t even bat an eye at such an American request. The terrace in the back is nice on great weather days because the kids run and play, while you watch and drink your cocktail knowing that they are fully enclosed.

Know before you go
You will need to make a reservation. On Saturday afternoons, it good weather, you may not get one! This restaurant was rather pushy with the French formula of Entree, Plate, Dessert. Be confident and order what you want. Their portions are pretty large for me, so I just ordered a Plate and was done with it. Don’t get bullied into ordering an entree if you don’t want one. There is smoking allowed on the terrace so if you are sensitive, ask to be seated away from it all.
If you accidentally drink to much and need to some time for it to wear off, go next door with the kids and play mini-golf, just don’t keep drinking at the mini-golf. But if you do, Tram 94 has a stop right outside the restaurant to get you home safely (raising hand).
