People talk a lot about Rouge Cloitre but there is a reason for that. It is a GREAT park. Two playgrounds, lots of space, you can walk into the forest through any trail, there is a cafe, and it is just…nice. Most of the time you have to drive 30 minutes out of Brussels to get these amenities. My family’s favorite thing to do is to pack a lunch or light dinner and just go. The kid’s play on the playground, my husband and I sit back, every once and a while they run up to us to shove some grapes, apple slices, cheese cubes or ham rolls in their mouth then run back off to play. The play ground at the top is more for younger children and the giant ship at the bottom is geared towards older children. Either way, they are going to have a good time. The cafe is open on the weekends, but I have yet to eat there. I’m sure it is standard issue cafe food, over priced but not too bad. If you have eaten there, let me know how it was.

Know before you go
There are 3 possible places to park. One is up on Chausee de Wavre, right before the road dives down into the park, then you can walk down the road. Two, drive down the road that dives down into the park and park at the Abbey. Three, park in the forest right where Chausee de Wavre and Avenue Tervuren meet and walk through the forest to get there. If it is your first time to go there, my suggestion is that you google map the view from Chausee de Wavre first so you know where you are going and your husband doesn’t think you are crazy for wanting to go down a single lane cobble stone road that seems to go no where. (Update, there are four places to park, you can part at the sports center area off of the E411, it is just a longer walk).
Bring a blanket to set up your picnic on! My favorite are these available at Decathlon. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/plaid-ground-cover-id_8171148.html
