This museum is so much fun for slightly older children to go to but also can be fun for younger children too if they are in the right mood. The museum showcases war relics from major wars that the Belgian forces have been involved in since, well a long time. The hangar with airplanes and helicopters is probably the only attraction that kids under 5 may be interested in. The museum is free and located in the Cinquantenaire park so if it is a bad day, you can just take them outside and let them run around like crazy.
You can also head up to the Arcades and view the city from the top of the arch. If you want to tire them out, take the stairs, but if not, use the elevator on the right of the hall that goes up to the arcades.
Address: Jubelpark 3, 1000 Brussels
Hours: Open from Tuesday until Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Know before you go:
You can not take backpacks or large purses into the museum but they will check them at the front for you.
There is a cafeteria on site for food
The people who work at the museum can be a little staunch. Children need to be “well behaved” in the museum. We were warned that if my son ran in the airplane hangar again we would be asked to leave.
